We are a team of expert linguists, examiners, translation project managers, ex-vendor managers and recruitment testing professionals who have come together to create the first dedicated global language competency testing and certification recruiter.
Our people are our biggest asset. Our global team of expert translation assessors come from universities, professional certification bodies and translation centres of excellence and are some of the best linguistic talents in the world. If you are an assessor and would like to join our team please email .
Cerlingo's robust assessment framework safeguards against subjective marking by assessors. Our assessment quality assurance process involves independent checking of assessments and providing constant feedback to assessors.
Cerlingo has spent one and a half years researching and testing translator competency evaluation frameworks to develop a robust and objective methodology that is not a “one size fits all” approach but one that takes into consideration multiple variables such as content type, subject/domain context, functionality and end user requirements when assessing quality of translation and timeliness.
The depth and breadth of a test is composed to directly reflect the market demand e.g. in the legal translation domain, the demand for the translation of highly academic content is far lower than commercial litigation case documents and this is reflected in the composition of the legal translation test.
Our research and consultations with LSPs have led us to believe that a translator is either fully competent to be engaged on a project or simply not competent and thus the output from our marking scheme is either a pass or a fail. In the event of a fail, the assessor provides brief feedback to you and the translator.
With a dedicated team of expert translation, proofreading and transcreation assessors, Cerlingo guarantees that anyone who passes our tests is fully qualified for the selected subject matter, and competent to deliver any translation, editing or proofreading project.
Can convey all information with complete accuracy without omissions, additions or distortions.
Have excellent knowledge of specialised terminology with minimum paraphrasing.
Show excellent use of vocabulary throughout.
Use excellent grammatical/syntactical constructions.
Display faultless spelling, accentuation/use of dictionaries and faultless punctuation.
Use the correct writing style throughout.
Our rigorous assessment criteria are based on zero tolerance of any errors that impede on the intended meaning and context of the source text, whilst not being over punitive for minor errors.
Our methodology ensures that only fully competent linguists can pass them.
Assessors are recruited based on their expertise, years of experience and monitored on a regular basis for adherence to Cerlingo assessment quality standards.
